Suzhou Travel

This page is Suzhou Travel. Before you travel to Suzhou , if you know more, you will have a better trip.Suzhou, old formerly walled city, is still surrounded by a rectangular moat. The Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway runs parallel outside and close to its north side. The old city is about 2.5-4.6 km north-south, and about 2.6-3 km east-west. It is criss-crossed by many canals (some in need of cleaning). The western and southern moats are actually branches of the famous Grand Canal (610 A.D). Immediately to the east is the 70-square-kilometer Sino-Singapore-Suzhou Industrial Park, a Singapore joint venture. To the west is the 60-square-km High and New Technology Zone. Beyond that is Lake Taihu 20 km east of the old city. The main street, Renmin (People’s) Road, runs north-south; Guanqian Street runs east-west, meeting almost in the center, of the city. The city wall was built in 514 B.C. and remnants, including three gates, remain. Also remaining is one of the eight water gates. Taxis are double Shanghai’s rates but the city is small. You can also get around cheaply by bicycle rickshaw (Y10 for a couple kilometers) or public tour bus.Hope you have a nice trip in your Suzhou Travel.

Suzhou’s downtown streets are thickly lined with plane trees and some of its tiny white-washed cottages are original Ming. Unlike other Chinese cities, the Japanese war inflicted little damage here. Suzhou is known primarily as a cultural and scenic city, similar in this respect to Japan’s Kyoto.
