China generally does not require health documents or vaccination certificates. If you are arriving from a cholera or other epidemic infected area (yellow fever in certain African and Latin American countries), you will probably need to present a health card certifying that you have been inoculated against such diseases. It’s always best to check with your travel agent on current health requirements before departure.
Nor do you need to take any special shots before you go, unless you plan to go native and eat in local restaurants or along the streets where you are risking hepatitis because of poor food handling and dish washing practices as well as the habit of reusing unsanitary wood chopsticks (carry your own or go for the familiar fork and spoon). Contrary to what others may tell you about cleanliness in China, cleanliness is often a form of window dressing that does not translate into Western standards for restaurant and food stall hygiene. Be careful where and what you eat and drink.
